Skillet Bison Tacos
Fast, flexible, and endlessly customizable. Build your tacos your way.
A South Texas staple, Tacos are the easiest way to feed quickly and on the go. Ground bison cooks fast, and because it's so lean, you don't have to drain grease. You can have dinner on the table in 15 minutes flat, or wrap it in foil and take it on the go.
Ingredients
1 lb ground bison
1.5 tbsp taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
Corn or flour tortillas
Lettuce
Tomato
Avocado
Shredded cheese
Optional: cilantro, lime, salsa, jalapeños
Instructions
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground bison and cook, breaking it apart, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Add taco seasoning and 1/4 cup water, stirring well.
Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Warm tortillas in a dry pan or directly over a gas flame.
Fill tortillas with seasoned bison and your favorite toppings.
Why Bison for Tacos?
Bison is leaner than ground beef, so there's no grease, just flavor. It's mineral-dense and cooks quickly. Every bite is real protein, not filler. And supporting Indigenous-led food sovereignty with every taco? That's the kind of choice that feels and tastes good.
Ways to Use Leftover Seasoned Bison
Don't save bison just for tacos. Use it for burritos, salad bowls, nachos, grain bowls, or grain-free lettuce wraps. Layer it with avocado and tomato. Stuff it in a sweet potato. The seasoned meat is your protein foundation for a week of meals.
