Texas Says Yes to Rematriation: TTBP Awarded $40,000 Grant
We're proud to share that the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the Texas Department of Agriculture's GO TEXAN Product Promotion program. This recognition arrives at a pivotal moment for our work and carries deep meaning for how we continue to bring our Bison to tables across Texas and beyond.
What This Grant Means
The GO TEXAN program supports the marketing and promotion of agricultural products grown, processed, and value-added right here in Texas. For us, this is an affirmation that our work—raising Buffalo on rematriated land, processing our own meat in our USDA-certified facility, and stewarding the Southern Plains through regenerative practice—belongs in the conversation about what Texas agriculture can be.
This funding strengthens our ability to tell the story of who we are: a Lipan Apache-led nonprofit building food sovereignty, cultural continuity, and ecological healing through our relationship with Iyane'e, our Buffalo relatives.
How We'll Use It
Over the coming months, we'll channel this grant into marketing and promotional activities that deepen awareness of our Bison products and mission. Whether it's reaching new customers through direct sales channels, strengthening our presence at community touchpoints like the Bastrop Farmers Market, or expanding how we share the story of rematriation and regenerative stewardship, this investment goes directly to work that honors both our land and our community.

We're grateful to the Texas Department of Agriculture for recognizing Indigenous-led agricultural innovation and for understanding that supporting TTBP means supporting a different model of farming, processing, and land stewardship rooted in Native lifeways.
