Once again, I’m speaking to you directly with an urgent call to action. It has not been an easy feat for our team to reach this point. Over the years, we’ve endured the growing pains of any young organization and weathered the systemic challenges that come with being Indigenous. Yet we’ve proudly stood as the only woman- and Indigenous-owned bison ranch in Texas that accepts EBT/SNAP benefits and ships across all of Turtle Island—bringing grass-fed, humanely raised, regenerative bison meat to family kitchen tables.
Today, the resource our community depends on is under threat. The current government shutdown could halt EBT/SNAP benefits for 42 million people starting in November. I feel a familiar mix of rage, fear, and urgency. I know firsthand the weight of losing access to these resources—I, too, was once a mother relying on programs like SNAP.
