Growing Sovereignty: Newman’s Own Supports Our Floresville Ranch with LED Grow Lights and Tower Garden

Here's our Ranch Hand, Art, with one of the new towers all put together!

Here at the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project, we’re thrilled to share exciting news from our newly reclaimed 150-acre ancestral ranch in Floresville, Texas. Thanks to a generous donation from Newman’s Own, we now have state-of-the-art LED Grow Light Kits and a Tower Garden aeroponic system to help us grow fresh, nutrient-dense food year-round.

These tools will allow us to start seeds earlier indoors and extend our growing season—combining modern technology with the ancestral knowledge that guides us. This is key to strengthening Indigenous food sovereignty and healing our connection to the land.

Our Floresville ranch is more than just a home for our Buffalo and a place to grow food. It’s a vibrant community space where we host workshops, welcome families and youth, and pass on Indigenous land-based teachings.

Our Executive Director, Izel Lopez, shares the heart of our mission perfectly:

“We believe that access to healthy, culturally relevant foods is a basic human right—especially for our Indigenous communities working to restore the relationship between land, animals, and people.”

If you want to help us continue building out this important space and support the ongoing care of our Buffalo and land, please consider donating to the Iyane’e House Fund. Every contribution helps us grow not just food, but culture, community, and sovereignty.

Thank you for standing with us.
